Tips on Booking a Cruise

We are ready to go on another cruise!  My husband and I have been on over 10 cruises together. I think our favorite cruise was our 11 day Europe honeymoon.  On a cruise you get to go to many places but stay on one floating hotel.  Believe me, we did not want to stay in the places we visited.  But we loved every minute of Spain, Turkey, Greece, Malta, Egypt, and Italy!

Cruising for us all starting when my Grandmother brought us on a Caribbean cruise for a high school graduation present.  After that my husband and I went on a cruise out of Philly (They don’t have cruises from there anymore) to Bermuda for 7 days.  The rest is history.  We go on at least on cruise a year and one year we went on three!  Yes we are blessed and lucky so I thought I would explain our cruise process.

Tip 1: Create a Spreadsheet of Possible Cruise Ideas

We like to try and cruise with friends and family if possible.  To do this we make a spreadsheet to see what cruise we want to go on and the best deals.  You can click on the image to make it bigger below.  Here you can see a google doc of the cruises, price, and perks.

After we have decided we then book the cruise by ourselves online.  You can go though a company like Orbitz or where ever you found the best deal for the room, floor, and perks that you want.  That is right, we don’t use a travel agent.

Tip #2:  Remember and Plan for Hidden Costs

Here are a list of costs to remember when booking a cruise.  These are not including in the cruise price.

  • Tips about $10 a day
  • Taxes
  • Getting to the port
  • Alcohol
  • Soda
  • Excursions

Tip #3:  Do You Homework

Do some searching on the internet to find the best deal.  Some places may offer free gratuities, better floor on the cruise ship, or a free bottle of champagne.

7 Things You May Forget When Traveling On An Airplane

These are some packing tips that may sometimes get overlooked:

1. Carry on

Decide if you are going to take all of your luggage with you on the plane or not. If you are not remember that liquids need to be kept in a separate bag.

2. Medicine –

You may need something for a headache, allergies or sleeping pills. When traveling to different places you never know how your body will react.

3. Umbrella

It is a good idea to pack an umbrella on the outside of your luggage. This way whatever climate that you arrive you will be dry. You never know what type of weather situation you will get yourself into. The (airport worker) will even think you are smarter for doing this).

4. Extra travel bag with all amenities

If you travel a lot it is a good idea to create a travel bag. This is a bag that you do not unpack, that has all your travel needs in it. This can include shampoo, conditioner, soap, tooth brush and toothpaste, brush, floss ect.

5. Pack in a plastic

Before flight or layovers your luggage may be on the run way for a long time.During this time it may be uncovered during the rain. This may cause your items to, you guessed it, be all wet when you receive it. A good idea is to pack your luggage in a trash bag in the bad. This will keep your clothes dry for when you get to your destination.

6. Exact change envelope

Keep exact change in an envelope so you will not spend it. Then if there are any tolls which need exact change you will be ready.

7. Winter Jacket

Remember not to pack your winter jacket if you are going to a cold place in case your luggage gets lost.
